Love marriage yoga in a kundli is a link between the fifth house, which carries affection, and the seventh house, which carries marriage. That is the whole idea. When the lords of those two houses exchange places, sit together, aspect each other, or are joined by Venus, the chart favours a marriage that begins as a relationship rather than as a proposal. Add the eleventh house, which carries the fulfilment of a wish, and the indication is stronger. Also written prem vivah yog, and asked most often as whether the chart shows love marriage or arranged.
The question keeps coming up because families treat the two as opposite categories, and charts do not. In twenty years of reading kundlis I have seen far more charts that carry both than charts that carry one cleanly. This guide sets out the combinations I actually look for, what Venus and Rahu change, what the chart says about a family accepting the match, and what is worth doing when the answer is not the one you hoped for.
The combinations I look for, and what each one means
These are the links I check, in the order I check them. A single one is an indication. Two or three together, confirmed in the navamsa, is a reading.
| What is in the chart | What it usually shows | What I check next |
|---|---|---|
| Fifth lord and seventh lord conjunct, or exchanging houses | The clearest form of the yoga. Affection and marriage are tied to the same planets, so a relationship tends to become the marriage | Whether both lords are well placed, and whether the navamsa repeats the link |
| Seventh lord placed in the fifth house, or fifth lord in the seventh | The same idea in a softer form. A love that arrives through ordinary life, study or work, and settles without much drama | The dasha, because this pattern often waits for the right period |
| Venus linked to the fifth or seventh lord | Attraction is central to the match. In a man’s chart Venus is also the significator of the spouse, so the link doubles | Whether Venus is strong, combust or afflicted, which changes the whole reading |
| Rahu with the seventh house, its lord or Venus | A match outside the expected circle: another community, language, religion or country. In Mauritius this very often means a partner met abroad | Whether Rahu is scattering choices rather than pointing to one |
| Mars with Venus, or Mars aspecting the fifth or seventh | Intensity and haste. Strong attraction, quick decisions, and friction that has to be managed rather than feared | Mangal Dosh and its cancellations, which are a separate question |
| Fifth, seventh and eleventh lords connected together | The desire reaches fulfilment. This is the combination I most want to see when a family asks whether a relationship will become a marriage | Whether the eleventh lord is strong enough to deliver, and in which period |
The navamsa, the ninth divisional chart, is where I confirm any of this. A link that appears in the main chart and vanishes in the navamsa is usually an attraction that did not hold. A link that appears in both is the one worth planning around. The houses themselves are set out in the guide to the 12 houses in a kundli.
A love marriage yoga tells you how the marriage is likely to begin. It says nothing about whether it will be happy. Those are two different readings, and the second one matters more.
Love marriage or arranged: the chart rarely says only one
This is the correction I make most often. People arrive expecting a yes or a no, and the chart gives neither. A kundli that carries a fifth and seventh link and also a strong, well-supported seventh lord will very often produce a relationship that the families then arrange formally. That is a love marriage and an arranged marriage in the same event, and it is the commonest outcome I see in Mauritian families.
The reverse also happens. A chart with no fifth and seventh link at all can still produce a proposal that turns into genuine affection quickly, because the seventh house describes the marriage and not the route into it. Judging a chart as love or arranged, and stopping there, throws away almost everything useful in it.
What is genuinely worth knowing in advance is the timing and the match. The period that delivers a marriage is read from the Vimshottari dasha, which is explained in the guide to delay in marriage, and once a partner is in view the two charts are compared. The free kundli matching tool gives the 36 guna score, and the guide to guna milan explains what the score decides and what it does not.
When the family is the obstacle rather than the chart
Most people who ask me about love marriage yoga are not really asking whether love is indicated. They already know it is. They are asking whether the family will accept it, and that is a different part of the chart. The second house carries the family and the wider household, the fourth carries the mother and the home, and the ninth carries the father and tradition. How the seventh lord sits in relation to those three tells me how much resistance to expect.
Where the seventh lord is afflicted by the lords of the second or the ninth, the objection tends to be principled rather than personal, and it tends to soften slowly rather than break. Where Rahu is involved, the objection is usually about the difference itself, community or distance, and it often resolves when the family meets the person. Neither reading is a prediction. They describe the shape of the difficulty, which is enough to stop a family negotiating blindly.
I will say plainly what I do not do. I do not perform anything intended to bend another person’s will, and I do not offer vashikaran. Any practitioner who offers to make a particular person agree is selling something that is neither classical nor honest, and the people who buy it are usually frightened. The love and relationship guidance I offer is a reading of both charts and a conversation about the real obstacle, which is nearly always timing or family rather than the relationship.
What is actually worth doing
Nothing on this list forces an outcome, and I would not write it if it did. These steps put the decision on solid ground, in the order that matters.
- Verify the birth time first. A few minutes can move the ascendant, and with it the fifth and seventh houses and every lord attached to them. Half the love marriage questions I am asked change shape once the chart is cast properly.
- Read both charts, not one. A yoga in your chart describes your route into marriage. Whether this particular match is sound is a comparison, and it needs the other person’s date, time and place.
- Find the period before making a plan. Knowing which dasha and antardasha carry the promise stops a family from forcing a decision in a year that was never going to deliver one.
- Observe the practice for the planet actually involved. Venus practice on Fridays where Venus is weak, Jupiter observances where the seventh lord needs support. A remedy aimed at the wrong planet is effort spent on nothing.
- A puja where the chart shows a real affliction. Navagraha Shanti where several planets are involved, or a planet-specific puja where one is, which I perform at homes across Mauritius and on a client’s behalf where the family is abroad. Read what a Navagraha Shanti puja involves before arranging one.
If a Mangal Dosh label has been attached to either chart, check the cancellations before letting it decide anything. Most charts that carry it also carry a cancellation that nobody looked for, and the rules are in the guide to Mangal Dosh and what it really means.
Having your chart read in Mauritius
I read charts in person in Port Louis and across Mauritius, and online by phone or WhatsApp for families whose children are studying or working abroad, which is a very common version of this question here. What I need is the date of birth, the exact time and the place, and the same for the other person if a partner is already in view.
If you have been told your chart shows love marriage, or that it does not, and nobody explained which combination they were reading, that is the reading to ask for. Send your birth details and I will tell you which of the links above is actually present, whether the navamsa confirms it, and which period ahead carries the promise. If the answer is that the chart is sound and the timing has not come, I will tell you that too.
Frequently asked questions
It is a connection between the fifth house, which carries affection and romance, and the seventh house, which carries marriage. The connection can be an exchange of their lords, one lord sitting in the other house, an aspect between them, or Venus linking the two. When that link exists and the eleventh house of fulfilment joins it, the chart is said to favour a marriage that begins as a relationship.
Two houses working together, not one. The fifth house shows affection and attraction, the seventh shows marriage, and the eleventh shows whether a wish reaches fulfilment. A strong fifth house on its own describes romance that may never become a marriage; a strong seventh on its own describes marriage that may be arranged. The link between them is the yoga.
It often points towards a match outside the expected circle, which may mean a different community, language, religion or country, and in Mauritius it very often means a partner met abroad. It is an indication and not a rule. Rahu on the seventh also brings the churn of proposals that appear and dissolve, so the same placement can read very differently once the rest of the chart is seen.
Yes, and most do. A chart that carries a fifth and seventh link and also a well-supported seventh lord can easily produce a relationship the family then arranges formally, which is the commonest outcome I see. The two are not opposite categories in the chart, only in the way families describe them afterwards.
Yes. I read charts in person in Port Louis and across Mauritius, and online by phone or WhatsApp for families whose children are studying or working abroad. I need the date, the exact time and the place of birth, and both charts if a partner is already in view.
